Big Bad Ape | You are in :Arcade Monkey Games |
Judging by the cover which depicts a giant ape emerging between the city buildings, this is going to be some King Kong or better Donkey Kong style arcade, except for the city doesn't look near as fancy as New York. Cool vintage rock tune banging in the background promises retro arcade lovers that they are on the right track.
The title itself which reads 'Big Bad Ape' announces the destruction of buildings, pulling off the roofs and maybe even close combat with the military forces, but let's not rush with conclusions...Just hoping they're going to come up with something more original than a shabby rescue scene about you releasing tied up beauty from the claws of rampant gorilla.
Play controls are fairly simple and pretty much standard. You use arrow keys to move and space bar to take action (read throw, smash and destroy).
Gameplay
The game stars up with you playing as a giant caged ape who manages to escape through the glass by punching at the cracked spot. By pressing the space bar you keep punching until the glass completely crash leaving you enough space to pull through and get out. Giant ape has completely lost it. While roaming the city streets he's letting off the steam by crushing cars, killing and eating pedestrians and workers from the local facility. He won't show no mercy for local burger shop neither. When you reach the ship, the first level is over and you may choose to proceed with the next mission. The rage continues on the ship...

The point is that you must kill everybody on the level before you are allowed to proceed. A white arrow pointer is going to show you the position of the target you must destroy. When you hear the clapping sound that's a sign that you're done with the mission. The next thing is reaching the finish line and moving on to a next level.
The game behaves as classic platformer, meaning that you can jump on and off the bridges and metal containers. You may even duck to avoid heavy fire. When they start shooting at you, you may defend by throwing cars at them but eating them all is usually a way to go. It's fun and refreshing. So if you ever daydreamed about completely destroying a police car without consequences, this is a game for you.
